The engagement session is one of our favorite parts of our time together because it gives you both a chance to be in front of our cameras before you get married, which helps make your wedding day experience feel smooth and comfortable. Not only that, but we get to create something special together. You’re going to be married for over fifty years, but you only get to be engaged for this short period of time. We’re so excited to capture the only time in your life when you get to be each other’s fiancés.

engagement sessions

We encourage you to brainstorm a few places and to reach out to any contacts in your personal or professional networks who have access to unique locations that would otherwise be off limits, like a family ranch. Then consider your personal style and what you hope for from the session. Do you want to be the in heart of the city with lots of architecture, surrounded by lush green trees, or running through a field?

We can always add suggestions too. A 25-mile radius of travel is included in the engagement session that covers the majority of Twin Cities locations. If there is an area outside of that range that you want to go, just let us know and we can get a custom travel quote drawn up.

A simple rule of thumb is to avoid wearing the same color for your top. Try to use no more than two colors as your accents. Your outfits will feel balanced if you both incorporate one of those accents - accessories can help pull the two looks together.

The camera loves neutral colors so aim for lighter or muted tones. We recommend avoiding ultra-bright shades, these have a negative effect on camera and risk casting unflattering colors onto your skin.

coordinate outfits

bringing the two looks together

It often helps to choose the bride's outfit first then coordinate the groom's second. Women have more options so it helps to solve the hardest part of the equation first.

First things first, there is no such thing as “too dressed up” when it comes to your engagement session. You're in a very romantic season and we believe your outfits should reflect that!

You have our permission to have fun with your choices and accessories too! This is your chance to flaunt anything you have ever dreamed of - like twirling in a tulle skirt or rocking a flower crown - go for it!

In our experience, every woman, regardless of her shape has an area of her body that she’s self-conscious about, so recognizing what that is in advance is key. I will be the first to raise my hand to that! Choosing flattering silhouettes and colors that compliment your natural features is the best way to ensure you’ll love the way you look in your photos. Here are some general tips to consider when you're choosing your outfit and color scheme.

STYLE TIPS FOR HER

HOW TO FLATTER YOUR FEATURES

Most couples choose two outfits for their session. One formal, one more casual. We recommend wearing your most formal outfit first.

Feel free to bring anything with you that helps you celebrate and showcase your wedding date. Choose items that match your personal style, fit with the theme, or are on the more practical side like a large blanket to get cozy or use for sitting on the ground. A pair of flats for gals to transition between locations is always a smart idea! A simple bouquet of flowers can also add an extra pop and texture to the photos. Couples who love coffee dates or tea might want to incorporate mugs. Bringing a rosary gives us a chance to photograph the two of you praying!
